If you've ever had "one of those days," you know a gentle reminder of God's Promises would've lifted your spirits right up. But we don't always know when we'll go through a moment where we need to be encouraged and reminded of the Truth of the Word of God over every situation in our lives. Here are a few simple ways to keep the encouragement of Scripture present throughout your day:
One of my favorite places to keep fresh insights and truths is on the bathroom mirror. I often use dry erase markers, which wipe away easily - but you can also find a more permanent solution for truth that touches your heart, like vinyl wall art.
You know when you put on a coat or pair of pants, and discover money in the pocket? What a treat! Now imagine if you've pre-planted a powerful message to be discovered later. I especially like to tuck Scripture Shareables in my husband's shirt pockets and my kids' lunch sacks.
Every 3000 miles or so, I look up in the corner of my windshield and remember to change the oil in my car. Every 3 minutes or so, I look up in the same corner and remember that "nothing is impossible for those who believe." - thanks to a window cling sticker that I've placed beside the oil change reminder. These repositionable decals are so handy!
Everyday items are some of my favorite ways to "hide scripture." A girlfriend asks if I have a compact, and she gets a dose of eternal beauty along with it. I pull out my wallet to pay the bill, and I'm reminded to trust the Lord.
If I have to get up early, one of the best ways to motivate myself is to set my alarm to play one of my favorite worship songs. The truth of that song stays with me through my first, second, and third cups of tea for the morning.
I go through necklaces like dollar bills. Well, not really. But every new season of my life deserves a new piece of jewelry - don't you think? I'm reminded every time I absentmindedly reach for the pendant, what the jewelry symbolizes and why I'm wearing it. Right now it's Matthew 17:20 - faith like a mustard seed. I'm sure it'll change in a month or two, at which point it will be time to go shopping again.
The simplest words throughout my home - faith, hope, love, courage - remind us of who we are in Jesus and what He promises as we live life with Him.
Ringtones are a fun way to brighten the day - especially when they're assigned to the people who call you the most. Ever have Mandisa or TobyMac ring out in the middle of the cereal aisle at Walmart? And every time I whip out my phone, I love what I see: the message to be strong and courageous. Much better than a plain old cell phone case.
It's a subtle reminder, but every time I carry my JOYN shoulder bag, I remember where I got it from and why. I feel honored to be a part of helping empower men and women in India break the poverty cycle in their lives. It reminds me of the Scripture that inspired the bag, Genesis 12:2 "I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing..."
I love to journal. I love to write notes. I love to send thank-you's and make sticky notes and to-do lists. My kitchen drawer and office are peppered with paper covered with truth, and I love that I don't have to look far to be encouraged every day. Even as I'm putting together my grocery list or leaving myself a note about soccer practice that night, I can meditate on God's word one verse at a time.
