I admit I haven't read this book. I was going to order it, but after reading the introduction via Amazon, I was disappointed. Shauna claims "Like every Christian, I recognize the two as food and drink, and also, at the very same time, I recognize them as something much greater -- mystery, tradition, and symbol."
As a Lutheran, I believe in transsubstantiation, that the bread and wine is the true body and blood of Christ, not a symbol. I was disappointed to see that she claims every Christian believes these to be merely a symbol.
I loved this book! It reads like pure poetry. Shauna literally had me craving the flavors as she prepared the recipes, and I felt like she was a dear friend by the end.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! It is truly a love letter to the taste, smell, touch, sound, community and memories behind breaking bread. Shauna makes this non-cook want to fall in with love cooking too!
Love this book & haven't even finished reading it! We are moving to a new home soon & this book has started me thinking how I can have the dining table a focal point that invites guests to sit, sup & share.
