He Is Faithful
A few months after our marriage, my wife and I were on our way to Mexico to serve as missionaries. In route, we spent three months in Ensenada, a small seacoast city in Baja California, Mexico.
We were there with my brother and his wife to study the Spanish language. They had just completed language school and were also planning on serving in Mexico as missionaries…
One morning, about six weeks into our studies, we woke up to discover that two fuses had blown in our fuse box leaving us without electricity. We also needed to replace our five gallon jug of drinking water. At that time fuses were ten cents each, and the jug of water was twenty cents.
In all, we needed forty cents. Between the four of us we had no money. We looked to the Lord for our need…
“Let’s go to the post office,” I suggested “perhaps some money has come to us in the mail.” All four of us piled into our pick-up, and we headed into town. We opened our Post Office box with great expectation, but found it empty. We knew if God was going to meet our need of forty cents that day, it would not be through the mail.
“I think I’ll go take a walk on the beach,” my brother said a few moments after our return from town. He was gone about twenty minutes before returning…
“When he came in the door he stood there holding a piece of paper in his hand. Upon closer examination we realized he was holding a five peso bill.
“Where did you get that!” we exclaimed. “I was walking on the beach when I noticed something sticking up out of the sand. I walked over and picked it up. It was folded and dirty, and at first I couldn’t tell what it was. To my amazement, when I started to unfold it, I realized I was holding a five peso bill–the exact amount we needed for today.” (At that time in Mexico a peso was worth 8 cents.)
The oriental shepherd was always ahead of his sheep. He was in front.
Any attempt upon them had to take him into account. Now, God is down
in front. He is in the tomorrows. It is tomorrow that fills men with
dread. But God is there already, and all tomorrows of our life have to
pass Him before they can get to us.

He that takes all his own cares upon himself loads himself in vain
with an uneasy burden. I will cast all my cares on God; He hath bidden
me; they cannot burden Him.

For great is Your love, reaching to the heavens; Your faithfulness
reaches to the skies.”
